Hey everyone,
Normally I would be in French class now - but circumstances were different today. LOL. I have a logical explanation for why I'm blogging right now. Actually, I got the "blogging" urge today after reading a fellow blogger's blog*spot. She had posted some results to a 'test' she took concerning religion. I've unofficically shifted through religious/spiritual existence through my short 23 years of existence and I decided to take that NON-scientific test just for fun. I, in the past, have blogged several quizzes here for varying amounts of time - they were all just for fun. My parents do know that I have a blog*spot. My dad stumbled upon it after googling what actually is my original yahoo IM screen name and found a link to my blog last December. He asked me not to post quizzes - or as he meant it, clutter my blog*spot. I have a no-editing policy and I didn't want to delete a bulk of past posts. I still don't. Anyways, my dad currently can't view it from where he is and barely reads emails because internet access is sooo expensive as is.
As an FYI note, I am taking an offline Asian Philosophy course as an elective for this current semester at my educational institution. I took this 'test' twice and laughed both times. I'm bookmarking the link to the 'test' under this entry's title. There are links to each results where one can find books and further information about each 'religion' cited. The percentages aren't precise and they have been altered to match the 'responses of best fit.' Offline, my family is Sikh ..... but truthfully the most traditional Sikh I know nearby is my grandmother.
My results:
1. Mahayana Buddhism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (98%)
3. Neo-Pagan (97%)
4. New Age (97%)
5. Taoism (88%)
6. Liberal Quakers (81%)
7. New Thought (81%)
8. Hinduism (79%)
9. Theravada Buddhism (79%)
10. Scientology (72%)
11. Jainism (67%)
12. Mainline - Liberal Christian Protestants (66%)
13. Secular Humanism (66%)
14. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (64%)
15. Orthodox Quaker (57%)
16. Sikhism (54%)
17. Reform Judaism (48%)
18. Non-theist (48%)
19. Bahá'í Faith (39%)
20. Seventh Day Adventist (27%)
21. Orthodox Judaism (26%)
22. Mainline - Conservative Christian Protestant (25%)
23. Islam (14%)
24. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (14%)
25. Jehovah's Witness (14%)
26. Eastern Orthodox (5%)
27. Roman Catholic (5%)
Hmmm .... is it just me or does this imply that I'm not in sync with the western 'religions' cited. The class I'm taking does cover some of those Asiatic religions but doesn't touch on my family's one. Historically speaking Sikhism is over 400 years old - created in the early 16th century. I looked in the dictionary the other day - it was basically classified as originally being a 'Hindu sect with Islamic influences formed in the early 1500s.' I would be greatly offened - as someone of entirely Sikh ethnic origins - if someone now referred to Sikhism as not being an organized religion.
Religions/philosophies covered in my course:
1) Hinduism
2) Mahayana Buddhism (Theravada Buddhism is mentioned since they originated from the same origins)
3) Taoism (aka. Daoism)
4) Zen Buddhism
Sikhism was originally a mono-theistic rebellion to Hinduism. In prinicple not only does Sikhism infer that there is one god, but it rejects the notion of the Hindu caste system. Sikhism's holiest shrine is called by non-believers as the Golden Temple. Unfortunately I can't state what it literally means ... but I have visited it at least on more than on occasion - the anglicized name describes it outward appearance. On this survey, Sikhism was listed as #16.
I'll give the URLs for the 'religions' that I find of interest that were provided after I took this 'test.'

I was going to reply to their private board for those who take that same 'test' like I did. Some thing major turned me right off of that. I saw a intolerant title posted titled "Islam sucks" or something along those lines. No offense intended to those who did post in that forum - but - lol, if I had been a Muslim woman I would have probably posted and told he/she off. I just closed the window because I didn't want to start something messy. I would like to extend my apologies if those links do not work. If anyone would like to give me information about their religion, please reply to this message directly. I won't be giving an email address because I simply will not tolerate SPAM that relates to religion - although it would be a change from the usual garbage that I see that is sent to my 'junk'/'bulk' folder. I know that I've been writing this entry for awhile now so I'll stop and let my readers digest what's been said and shown here today by yours truly.

I forgot to mention that in my course, Confucius will be taught after Daoism and before Zen Buddhism. So far into the course, Hinduism and Mayahana Buddhism have been touched on. This week actually, we are covering one out of two Daoist works that have been translated into English. We did spend the first two weeks on Hinduism (which is the basis - or rather springboard of this school of thought - or should it be rebellion?!?!) so spending two weeks on Daoism doesn't seem that long realistically speaking.
